Welcome! The Psychotropic Deprescribing Council was founded to bring clinicians, other healthcare professionals, patients, and the general public together to address the rational deprescribing and tapering of psychotropic drugs.
These drugs are most often prescribed in psychiatric treatment but are used in many fields, such as gynecology, rheumatology, and pain treatment.
Our mission: To advance safe and responsible psychotropic deprescribing through research and education in best clinical practices.
Although prescribing psychotropic drugs is common, doctors receive little guidance on how to safely reduce or stop them. Many millions are at risk for sudden discontinuation of drugs such as antidepressants, benzodiazepines, or pain drugs.
The Psychotropic Deprescribing Council will gather medical professionals and the public to provide guidance about the process of deprescribing and tapering off these medications when appropriate.
