Psychiatric deprescribing is on the map

Deprescribing is becoming recognized as a core skill in psychiatry, as clinicians, patients, and policymakers increasingly recognize the importance of reassessing long-term psychotropic medication use and identifying when dose reduction or discontinuation may be appropriate.

The Psychotropic Deprescribing Council conducted a web search for mental health practitioners in the US who also offer deprescribing services, resulting in the map above, which reflects the growing momentum of a national movement toward more individualized, patient-centered psychotropic care.

We invite clinicians with an interest in psychotropic deprescribing to join the PDC’s network to connect with colleagues who share an interest in safe deprescribing practices and help expand access to knowledgeable, evidence-informed care in their communities.

(If you are a patient looking for such care, use Web search in your state with the keywords “psychiatric deprescribing”.)
